Amendments Planned to Be Brought by the Law Proposal to the TDPL

The Proposal for the Amendment of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Certain Laws and the Decree Law No. 659 (“Proposal”) was published on 16.02.2024. You may access the original version of the Proposal here.

With the Proposal, significant amendments are planned to be brought on the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (“Law”). The main purpose of the Proposal is to harmonise the Law with the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and to revise the Law in accordance with the current needs. In this regard, the Proposal aims to bring important amendments regarding the processing of special categories of personal data and the transfer of personal data abroad.

Although the planned date for the adoption and entry into force of the Proposal is 01/06/2024, it is envisaged for the transfer of personal data abroad until 01/09/2024 may continue pursuant to the explicit consents priorly obtained from data subjects.
